Help me build a 24" MTB - rigid fork
I want to build the kid a 24" MTB. A 26" just will not work.
The problem is that all the 24" stuff I have found is absolute junk. I want to build a bike that has STX/XT level component. The bike should come in at or around 20lbs. as it will be used for kiddie C-X.
Specialized seems to make the best out of the box bike, but I would have to throw away most of the components, which wouldn't be horrible. In any event, I would still need a fork.
The suspension forks that come with these bikes are heavy and an absolute cruel joke with respect to performance.
So the questions are:
- Where can I find a decent aluminum 24" frame?
- Where can I find a decent 24" rigid fork?
- Wheels I can handle, but I know it will be expensive-ish.
- I am going to build it as a 1x9 and will likely use track cranks to get the right arm length.
Any input greatly appreciated.
