crankarm selection. Plz Help
Hi all.
First off, I know almost nothing mountain biking, I usually hangout in other subforums. Basically. My friend owns a Cannondale F9. He ripped the threads of one of his crank arms while biking and is now looking for a new crankset to replace. According to the website, the F9 comes stock with the FSA TH-7420ST bottom bracket. And since I couldn't find a website that sells the stock SR Suntour CW8 crankset. I was wondering if the Shimano Altus FC-M311 might work as well. Or maybe you guys will have some other suggestions? He just wants a decent crank that isn't expensive. Much thanks. |
check jensonusa.com or pricepoint. best deal out there right now is the shimano LX crankset- $85. great deal, super durable and really cheap. was going to pick one up myself but something else fell into my lap. its not super bling, but will outlast most riding, is fairly light and shifts well. it will outlast that bike, and probably end up on other builds.
one thing to keep in mind is that a lot of cranksets do not include a bottom bracket. it can be an added expense. That altus crankset isn't bad at all- but it does not include the octalink bottom bracket. add that in (another 25 to 35 bucks) and you are almost up to the LX. |
thanks droptop.
Would he need to switch out the BB too? I was thinking he might be able to keep the FSA bottom bracket and just replace the crank arms. |
