Which bike to buy?

Sorry if there are already tons of these threads. I am trying to decide on a bike, I had an Trek 820 for about 10 years and really liked it. However it was stolen recently and neither of my local trek stores carry the 820. My decision has come down to two bikes. I do some trail riding and ride around town.
Any input would be awesome.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.

I personally would always go with the disc brake model, given the choice. Even if you find those particular brakes less-than-adequate, upgrading at some later date is much easier and cost-effective because you will already have the niceties like disc-compatible wheels (hubs), hose-routing guides, etc.
