Proflex 857 Expert Series
 

Hi everyone...

I wasn't sure if this was the best place to post it, but since it is a mountain bike about which I am inquiring, here goes...if there is a better place, let me know. I was thinking of buying and reselling a bike, as I saw an instance of one on eBay go for much more than the cost of this one. The components equipped are

Pro Active CF Swing Arm

Girvin Elite Crosslink front suspension

I am not sure of the year but am including pictures in case anyone knows. It has brand new grips and is missing the front derailleur. What would be a fair selling price, and what would be a good price at which to acquire this bike? Thank you all for the help.

You mean you wouldn't ride it? You just want free advice so you can make a few bucks off an old bike? Yeesh.

No...I planned on riding it for a bit, until a bike better suited for me comes along that is a pretty good deal. I have no real need for full-suspension, but it would be cool to try it out. And if I ended up really enjoying it, I am sure I would keep it. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Just figured I would be more concise. Thanks anyway.

You might start with something a little more serviceable then. ProFlex has been out of business for quite a long time (absorbed by K2 many years ago). While decent at the time of its debut, full suspension bikes have also come a very long way since. They're generally not investments, either. I'm not sure how I misinterpreted "I was thinking of buying and reselling a bike" though...

I just didn't mention that I planned on riding it for a while. I didn't think anyone needed that whole story. You didn't misinterpret it. I know it isn't quite a classic bike, but that older bikes that were pretty good in their time and that are still in good condition can be worth a fair amount. I figured I could get a decent bike that I could use until I saw a good deal on something more fit for me in this area, then buy it, and resell the Proflex. Thank you for the advice though. Trying to find info on older bikes can be tough.

It's a classic bike in it's own way, just not a practical one IMO, although it does look to be in good condition. What's the asking price for it?

If your goal is to buy something old/classic there's much more information in a forum like this http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39. There's tons of information on old bikes on the internet, you just need to do some research. Have you looked at mombat.org? Bikepedia.com?

Nowdays a Proflex is ancient technology. And therefore not worth much. 'cause it has the carbon swingarm, I'll give you $2.50 for it.

That said, I have a Proflex 756 and it is my first proper MTB. It rides ok and is fun to ride.
