Best bargain fork for hardtail XC bike.
Hi,
I have a 2008 Giant Yukon hardtail that came stock with a RS Dart 1. I've been looking to upgrade to another fork, preferably with a effective lockout system, and that would be better for a heavier (over 200lb) rider. I'd like to find a good deal on a lightly used one, one on clearance or one that came stock on someone's new bike that they don't want, say under $200 but closer to $100 would be nice, but still reliable. I'm still don't have a lot of experience, so probably just need something for mild and moderately technical XC/trail use, but that would still work well on pavement around town.
-Would air or coil (with a extra firm spring) be better for this?
-Would anything that has the same travel and steering tube dimensions as the Dart fit?
-Stick with 100mm travel, or would something slightly higher ~110-120 mess up the geometry?
-So far the RS Tora w/ lockout seems pretty good, though some have reported oil leaks on the older ones. Any other recommendations on models?
