Why would you assume that REI sells good brands? Does Dicks? Nope.

Not a good deal.

Looked like a decent bike to me. I warned him already that the fork & rear shock are garbage, but they could be replaced to make what looks like a decent bike based on the specs. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the strength of the welds. They look a little thin, but the pictures aren't very good.

You have to wonder why they're selling after only two rides.

REI isn't bad for some things, but for bikes I would stay away. Those bikes are nothing special at all.

Yeah but Dicks doesn't fund efforts to close existing mtb trails like rEi does.

I tend to agree, I don't think you can go wrong at that price.

Doesn't make it an $1100 bike...just means that they duped some yuppies that live in yuppie-mountainville to pay $1100 for a Novara. Probably conned them into "accesorizing" with the latest Oakley's and Pearl Izumi crap too.

Heck man...I'll sell you a bike that I was considering asking $1500 for...I'll let it go for $50 shipped. Now that's a heck'uv'a'deal!

Wow, a lot of hate for REI brands here. They're nothing special, but nobody looking at the $200 range is hoping for it. My experience with the brand is that they generally offer component lines on their bikes that you would have to go up a few hundred to find on name brand bikes. If you really think the deal is crap, help the OP find a better bike for the same price.

rei supports sierra club. sierra club is currently active in pursuing wilderness designation for millions of acres of public lands in the us. a wilderness designation means permanent exclusion of all ohv traffic, including bikes.

If I think the deal is crap, he can be thankful that I have the decency to tell him so he doesn't make a mistake and give his money to a peddler of crap. I'm not gonna hold his hand and rummage c'list and p'bike for the guy. I've got my hands full.

chelboed makes me LMAO at times! I agree with his yuppie post. REI's strangely seem to always be in the rich part of town for a reason! Ours here in Asheville is in the "Doctor's Ghetto" as we call it. It is essentially a secluded housing area mainly of doctors and such with their own shopping centers and theatre and all that ritzy stuff. But I say the rich need to be victimized too! Why not sell a Huffy to a a yuppie with a Santa Cruz price tag, if they are stupid enough to buy it I would sell a rock from my property to them and tell them in the center is gold!

But to the OP...................those bikes are not what they should be and a $1100 price tag two years ago, I am skeptical. But if your adamant about getting them then buy them. I would just hold out for something proven and you know is not "crap" as chelboed stated. Good luck.

Did I mention I hate REI too. Give me Performance; PricePoint; Nashbar; Jenson; Cambria; and Blue Sky Cycling any day.

OP...do you even know what size bike you need? Do you know what size bikes those are?

To enjoy MTB'ing and actually stick widdit, you need to get something that's going to fit right. If it doesn't fit, you will get fatigued early and not enjoy riding.

1. How tall are you?
2. How much do you weigh?
3. What type of riding will you be doing?

I know about sizes lol, and what size i need. Thank you though. I ride a 19 inch and have been for some while now. i was wondering if it was a good deal because i need/could use another bike right now because im about to start pimping my current Trek. But really the main reason i was asking is becuse i do a TON (quite litterally, ive probley fliped and floped a good 2000 pounds worth of stuff on craigslist) of buying and selling on craigslist. I search until someone posts something that they have and they dont really know what its worth then i buy it for cheap, turn around take better pictures and sell it for profit

These guys had it under "Mnt" instead of "Mtn or mountain" so it has just been sitting there and they have been getting nothing on it and nobody has seen it for that cheap

i promise you i can turn around and sell that bike for 350-400.. People in this area will pay anything for a mountian bike, add disc brakes and FS they will trade their first born son for it.
