Best way to pedal?????

When I'm riding is it always best to pedal forward or should I pedal backward as well? It seems it would help the chain wear better if I pedal both directions.

Pedaling forward gets you moving, backwards doesn't. Chain wear would be the same. On the other hand, chainring wear would be different.

If you pedal in both directions at once you won't move. My suggestion is to pedal forwards only for one ride and backwards only for the next.

By all means pedal both directions. As you allude, it evens cog wear without having to periodically dismantle your cassette and flip the individual cogs around. Also, if you pedal in a ratcheting motion rather than in circles, you can simulate the action of the first prototype Honda RN01 gearboxes - - giving your riding experience a certain Greg Minnaar "cool-factor."

Are you riding steel or not?

BurnNotice 07-26-10 01:09 PM

Pedal round and round. Otherwise you sit still and fall over.

Pedaling is overrated. Freeride.

Luke52 07-26-10 03:18 PM

Pedalling is over-rated.

Yep! Just hoping I can squeeze some rides in between now and the time he gets old enough to ride in the trailer.

Dannihilator 07-26-10 08:03 PM

Hammering so hard the chain snaps.

i find the best way to pedal is with my feet. i also find pedaling in a forward motion seems to work best, at least on my mountain bicycle. sometimes i pedal backwards on my fixed gear, but then i go backwards and inevitably fall down. i like pancakes.

Holy crap, how did I not see your post before I posted...

My excuse in regards to not seeing it, and my poor spelling is due to posting in the morning, pre-coffee.

As the Great Downhiller Stevie Wonder would say-"Here we go round in circles, uh huh!"

This is actually a nice break from the which CL bike should I buy threads.
