short or full-fingered gloves?
I need new gloves for summer/spring. Generally I have used short gloves but now I wonder about full finger gloves. Mostly I do cross-country but I do ride a lot on muddy trails.
Short or full-fingered gloves? Specific recommendations preferred. Thanks. David |
how much do your hands sweat?

you must live in the southern hemisphere. It's such a personal thing really. pop your bike into the store and try gripping with different gloves. I have a bunch of gloves but I love my old worn out padded half fingers the best for all types of riding that's not too cold personally. But my wife likes gel so everyone is different. I also have a pair of lightly padded full fingered that serve as 3 season gloves. I don't see a lot of +s to full fingered gloves personally besides keeping you warm and less likely getting a splinter if you grab a tree.

I prefer full-fingered even just for XC. I get the worst blisters at the botton-inside of my thumbs & half-fingered gloves don't protect that part very well. I would love to have a pair of half-fingered gloves with a full-fingered thumb.

Short for sure. Full fingered would be ungodly hot when I race.

Half. I put hockey tape on my shifters and brake levers so I have great grip (and shift) even when sweaty.

Reason I asked about hand sweating....
....I need full-fingered gloves to "wick" away moisture. Half finger gloves leave the ends of my fingers slipper...causes issues when braking/shifting. |

Take your full-fingered gloves and cut off half of the fingers on all but the thumb. =)

My hands don't sweat much.

If you go with the full fingered gloves you can’t get the real cool half fingered tan lines then!

I use to use short finger gloves but have fallen in love with long fingered one especially since they are being made with good light materials. Where I ride we have lots of sticker bushes and rocks. Nothing worse than rolling through some singletrack and getting thorns stuck in my fingers and knuckles. Also falling on rocks hurts; long finger gloves provide good protection. I really like the gloves made by PI.

i like the jett gloves, full finger, i wear them all year round, very happy with them. the palms have little vent holes, my hands don't sweat so much, they are comfy.
sort of like these, but not quite. these are the closest to the ones i have now....http://stores.jett-gear.com/-strse-4...ACK/Detail.bok |
I would wear half finger if I never ate s**t hard on rugged terrain. Until that happens, full fingered for me. Any type that has no plastic patches on the back or fingers. Fox Incline currently.

I have some fox Gloves. Both the short and long fingered versions. Weather determines what I use.
Warm I use short, cold I use long. |

Fox used to make a half fingered glove with a full coverage thumb and 3/4 trigger finger. They were my favorite half glove til I lost them in a move. Sadly they stopped making them and now I only ride full fingered gloves year-round while riding my mtb or road bike.

They already make gloves that that. My short finger gloves by Fox have full thumb coverage.
Although, there are some motorcycle gloves like these...they probably won't provide much protection, though. |
i ride full finger year round even in HOT sunny florida.
i like the grip i get on my brakes/shifter and i also have have my fingers saved by full fingers more times than not. really depends how you ride i suppose. |
I ride short-full-fingered gloves...smell like cabbage.

I use full fingered because many of the trails I ride are overgrown or have some sort of foliage to whack my fingers. Choosing well ventilated full finger gloves hasn't been a problem, even for the 100+ temps around here.
