Avid Elixir CR — Need help with diagnosis

My wife landed on the rear lever today. It still works, you can stop the bike; but if you squeeze beyond the point of contact, the whole thing gives, the lever will end up against the grip, and the calipers release. It's easy enough to pull it back out to be functional again.

Diagnosis? Feels like there's some sort of seal in the system that got displaced. Or the lever could have been rounded somehow?

Thanks!
