1st DH Race Bike
Hi, I've been riding DH for a while now, and I'm starting racing in January. I've been training on a hardtail these past couple of months and I'm looking for a proper full suspension downhill rig that I can win races on in the future, for around £600-700. ($950-$1100)
So,
-Should I get a complete bike or a frame that I can personalize?
-What size should I get for a lean U16 rider? (Thinking 15.5"?)
-What bike should I get? (Thinking Bighit, Stinky, Stab [is there much difference?], any inexpensive Iron Horses?)

Yeah, I'm giong used. Luckily, there's tons of Konas (and a few models) here in Ireland, I'm just looking for an opinion on whether I should buy a frame and build it up or a complete bike, and also what size.

if you are unsure of the size you need, and obviously seem unaware that a decent DH rig will cost more than a G, i wouldn't build one. i would check out those Konas if i were you.

Older Stinkys and Stabs will do you well and you might find some bargains. As toosense says, getting a build at $1K takes a LOT of research, a lot of patience and some very shrewd eBay purchasing. I have a young friend who has done it but he really did his homework. Stick to a complete bike that you can upgrade worn-out/disliked parts on as you go.

p.s. I don't know squat about downhill rigs.
