Help a Noob out (tube problems)
 

Today i was out on what was suposed to be a 30 minute ride, and it turned into 45 minutes because of the flat I got about a km away from home when i was trying to jump a curb (i have temporary horible platform pedals until i can find some bb's for my old ones). This is the second one this month and i dont understand why. im not useing especially cheap tubes. The preasure is around 50-60 psi, and im not riding especially demanding terain. They were both pinch flats, could it have something to do with the stock tires (bontrager) that came on my bike (a 2003 trek 4500). Any help apretiated.

Youre pressure is wicked high, try running them at like 40-45psi. Sounds like the pressure was too high if you caught the curb. From being a pinch, I wouldnt say check your rimtape, but make sure you set the tube properly, and dont leave hanging outside the bead.

the tube was set properly, i double checked it. i used to have it running around 45, but someone told me thats why i got the first pinch, urban ridding with too little preasure, told me to up it to 50-60.

Could always run DH tubes :D

Quit slamming curbs! Practice jumping a big mac box or other soft obstacle if you can't clear the curb. Higher pressure will help, but the rest of the ride will be harsh and if you hit the curb wrong, you'll flat even with over-inflated tires as you've noticed.

ok, thanks, ive just gotten used to my bmx style pedals and then i switched to cage pedals with the cages removed because of a busted BB. it takes a while to get used to the fact that i can only jump 3" now.

sometimes things like that happen. i remember going up stairs one time and popping my tube. then another time i got caught between paved road and the dirt on the side. higher pressure will help prevent it but too high a pressure and it'll be more prone.

Man I want a pump with a psi indicator. WAAAAH stupid low end pumps.

A lot of the freestyle guys I know run like 70-90psi for urban stuff, for what its worth.

I was just about to ask about that ^^^ they would need special tires/tubes to do that right? And if there running 70-90 psi, why do you always see the tires flaten so much in videos.
