Chainless bike
 

Hey guys, there's this new company called Dynamic Bikes, and they sell bikes with no chains, it's the same system that BMW motorcycles use, and i wanna know if their Mountain Bikes are any good, I'm using a bike with a chain, like most people...

Please don't post if you've never used a chainless bike and are just hating their system because it's different, post if you've used one on a legitimate trail and tell me if it held up to standards.

I have never used a chainless bike but am not going to start bashing them. The components are legit components. the only thing is that when I read the chainless technology, it said it was designed for 60rpms. That a little slow. Im not sure how it would handle mashing or 90+ cadence. Im also not sure how it would take a crash to the drive side but I dont think it would take impacts too well. and if it broke, how easy parts would be to get. The cool thing is no chain to deraill

As requested, I won't comment on the trail-worthiness of a shaft-drive bike (though I think it's a terrible idea for a mountain bike). I will say that I'd stay away from both of mountain bikes on Dynamic's website because of what looks like sub-par specs and suspension design on the dually. You can do better, even if a shaft-drive bike is punninly revolutionary.

That's too bad, I was hoping that their claims were more on the true side because it'd be great to eliminate the chain and have it be a working system... I'm not surprised their current mountain bikes are junk since it's a brand new company but if they could get the rest of the bike to a good quality and if their shaft drives don't break easily it'd be an absolutely amazing bike, mostly because as far as i could tell, gear changes are instant, you don't have to wait for a chain to hop up or down your gears; but, that's too many ifs to buy a 600 dollar bike =p

But that's not because of the shaft driven transmission, it's because they use the 8 speed Shimano Alfine IGH. You could just as easily have that hub with chain and get the same advantages.

I hope their product quality is better than their marketing spiel. They claim the hub has "range of 21 gears vs. chain bike". In reality, the 8 speed Alfine gear range is a tad over 300%, which is OK but nothing to brag about compared to SRAM or Rohloff. Changing the drive system from chain to shaft to small elves does not make that range any better.
