Marin Mount Vision 5.6
So I'm really a roadie. My current MTb rig is a 9 year old raleigh M800. I'm thinking of doing some endurance mtb racing, and have the opportunity to buy a marin Mt. Vision 5.6 for $1050.
I've been looking at higher end used stuff....however, I'm intriguied by this bike, it seems worthy of upgrades in the future.
I know the bike is a good deal, but could I do better used if I'm at all serious about racing?

Really, nobody?
I know I'm a a noob and a roadie (double whammy), but I dont' know much about full suspension...I know this is a good deal, but I want the right bike. $1500 is really my max, so could I do better used, or is this the way to go. I hate buyer's remorse.
thanks,
Tim

Alright...now I've found the Rockly Mountain Element Sport at Jenson...and it's only $899. It's got a fox rear shock. Deore shifters, Xt rear....now I'm thinking this is a better deal.
Any insight?

The Mount vision looks like a perfectly fine bike for endurance racing, as would the element. Both would be perfectly fine for endurance racing. The Marin is a little more "trail" oriented with the 120mm fork, but I've seen people race them on occasion. Both bikes will be on the heavy side, but parts look pretty reliable, so the limit is you and your tolerance of weight.
i would lean toward the Marin because of the fork, which may or may not preform better but might be more reliable, and because it has a lockout for the rear shock, which you will likely appreciate for racing.
