Trek 4500 Disc or Gary Fisher Wahoo

Hi all,

First post here- I did read the FAQ! Wahoo!

Anyway, I'm a college student and am looking into getting into cycling/mountain biking. I recently stopped rowing for a variety of reasons, and am considering mountain biking as a replacement activity.

I'm searching for a ~$500 bike. I looked at Trek because of the name brand recognition, and it seems like they have decent stuff. I am 6'3" 175lb. I would be primarily using the bike to commute from my apartment to class, and occasional trail rides during the weekends.

I did a little research and found pricing comparable on the 4500 Disc and the Wahoo, but which one do you all think would be a better fit for me? Any information to help me decide would be greatly appreciated, researching bike specs can be so confusing sometimes.

Thanks!

After looking over 10 LBS, I bought the 4500 Disc. I'm getting the 19.5 frame, with your height, you should get 21 inch frame. Like everyone will say, it really how the bikes suits you when you test ride the bike. I really wanted a better bike, but I just starting to ride again after many years. So this will do.

I just traded my Trek Wahoo for a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Expert. I loved the Wahoo for basic trail and street riding. Wahoo is a good bike, forget the 4500.
