Feeling sketchy- time to replace tire?
1 Attachment(s)
I'm fairly new to mountain biking, and I'm using my dad's FS marin. I feel pretty sketchy around corners, and I have a hard time keeping up with the people I ride with. Whenever I get the courage to push it around a corner, I feel it slipping a bit and I get scared. I ride in AZ, so lots of hardpack, sand, and rocks.
Anyway, here is the tire. Would replacing it give me more confidence? If so, what tire would you suggest for the terrain I described? Thanks |
Tread doesn't look too awful there. What tire pressure do you use?

You may be low on kahunas...that sometimes causes riders to ge slow.

it might not just be tread wear or psi, it might be the trail conditions you are riding. some tires work better on certain conditions than others. for the hardpack sand and rocks, kenda nevegal on the front/small block 8 on the back is good. i like the conti rubber queens, which have changed their name to trail kings, same tire.
go with the lower psi, if that don't work, perhaps you need different tires. |
You might consider a something like an WTB Exiwolf or a Maxis Larson TT for hard pack. The pattern on the tire in the pic is pretty aggressive.
