Rim Width vs Tire Size

I am new to mountain biking so maybe this is a stupid question. I just picked up a new rear 26"Weinman Taurus wheel because the rear wheel is way out of round on the bike I picked up. On the side of the Taurus rim it says 26X 1.5/1.95 which I assume to mean the width of the tires. I have some Continental Vertical Mountain Tires on order which are rated at 2.3 but on another review forum everybody claims is really 2.1. Will these work?
I am 210 lbs and will not be doing very aggressive riding. If it is borderline is there a tire pressure that might help. I currently run about 40-45 lbs in my tires.
thanks

I would check into a set of RynoLites or Mavics. It sounds like the rims you picked up are made for a Hybrid type frame. It is probably a very serviceable rim, and might work best with commuter tires.

If you want some 2.1 or bigger tires, get some rims that were made with that width in mind. Out of round wobbly rims make for a raggedie biking experience. No one wants that.

My Fuji has 26 x 1.5 rims (f&r) and runs Duro 26 x 2.10 as OEM tires, if that helps.

Not a problem. The Verticals are not a "large" 2.3 and will be fine on your rims. Even the newer "big" 2.3 tires should not be an issue.

Thanks everyone. I shouldn't have a problem
