What were the DH tracks like back in those days before long tyravel advanced bikes?

The courses back then weren't too much different in layout than today. They were a bit more groomed however. There was usually a pretty clean line you could take compared to modern courses. The speeds were of course slower but not necessarily a snail's crawl. Suspension meant that courses started getting meaner and riders were going faster. ;)
More pictures of Tomac... This is before he started using suspension. Check out the toe-clips too. ;) http://www.mtb-classic.de/mtb/yeti/tomacfrodrop300.jpg A later picture of him still riding full-rigid. http://dutch7.digitalus.nl/shadowbyt...lery/i0011.jpg |
Just to sort of get back to the original topic. You might want to try these clamp on drops. I've seen people use them on rides (converted hybrids) but I'm not sure how well they (or your bars) handle heavy torquing. It looks like one could generate quite a bit of leverage with them. They're called Road Ends.
