What Year Might This Rockhopper Be?
I'm being told this is a 2001 Rockhopper but I don't think so.... My guess is early 90's any ideas?

Capecodder, I agree, early '90s, maybe up to mid decade. Canti brakes and threaded headsets were long gone by the late '90s.

I have a late 90's Fuji that has the threaded headset and stem and canti brakes, also the solid fork. I know I bought mine between 1997-1999. So it could be an almost pre-new millenium bike ?

Saw a 1998 that had a suspension fork, but that could just as well be an upgrade ? The 1999 and later from what I've seen has the front suspension. Nice bike !

2000 Specialized Hard rocks came with a threaded 1/18 steeter & had a base option of a rigid fork. What components are on it? You can check by color availability as well. However, the frame tubing looks a little small in diameter.

Here's how we find the year of a bike over on C&V. On the front and rear derailers there are two letter date codes stamped on the back. When you find them, go to the Vintage Trek website and press the "Components" bar on the left. Hit "Shimano" and it will take you to the date code for Shimano components. You should be able to identify the month and year the derailers were made. You should be able to narrow the model year of the bike down to within one year.
Based on the Rockhoppers I've owned (and own) I'm guessing that's an early 90's. No way it's 2001.
EDIT: Here's a pic of 2001 Hard Rock that I added some newer components to. Note the 1 1/8 headset and larger aluminum tubes.

I honestly have no idea what year the bike is but this thread goes to show you just how much technology has changed in the last 20 or so years.
