was the price right?

i just recently got a winter bike for me to ride with. its pretty nice looking. here is some info from bikapedia:
http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...+300&Type=bike

i will post pics of it if anybody wants.
the problems when i bought it were these:
-missing rear derailer shifter cable
-breaks touched without braking ocasionally.
-front derailer cant shift into smallest cog(can anybody help me with this?)

so do you think all of this was a fair price for $30?
that is mostly it thank you in advance for your coomments. anybody ever have experience with the brand or specific bike? o and it came with MAXXIS minon DH on the front rim, a little worn out but pretty good tread left.

I have a old Univega rover that I got new in the early 90's Its is still a solid bike, and has been thru alot. I have done a few upgrades to keep it current and use it as a bike path bike to follow my kids on. The Derailure is most likely a cable adjustment. I would look on some of the closeout places, CL or ebay and get 8 speed stuff for next to nothing. ( I believe that bike is 8 speed ). I would say 30 is a great deal if the frame is solid.
Congrats!

ok thanks for the info. the frame is perfect. and at risk of sounding stupid what are closeout places? i have been hearing that phrase alot but still do not know what they are. i havnt seen anything on craigslist like that.

The front derailer could have several problems. It could be a cable that's jamming or rusted, or it could be dirt in the derailer, or it could be the low limit screw is set incorrectly. Try lubing the derailer with chain lube. If that doesn't work, with the left (front) shifter set in first (small) gear push on the derailer to see if it moves in and shifts the chain. If it won't shift, try backing off on the low limit screw and see if that helps.
I'd like to see pics of a Univega MTB. They are not common.
BTW, $30 is a good price for that bike.

You'll spend another $5 and 30 minutes getting it into decent running shape. $35 for a good rolling bike is worth it.

here is a pic of it. sorry about the quality. i will post better ones this weekend probally. its paint job is almost perfect and it handles great except for some rear brake noise from the pads touching. i thin i can adjust it though.
