Need some advice for a new mtb
hey guys, yes, i did read through all the forums and threads but i still need some help
im living in canada at the moment, so most of the companys im finding either dont have any prices in canadian or not even sure if they have the bike here, or.. they just sell bike parts which isint the greatest help at the moment
i set my budget at $999.99, was "hoping" to be able to get a a full suspension mtb with disc brakes, and hopefully light, oviously not some top of the line since thats like 3-4K, but not sure if that will fit in the budget,
i've had my supercycle with front shocks for about 6 years and its served pretty dam well past year i've been having to replace peices from a worser second bike of mine since i told myself im not putting any money in a canadian tire bike that cost $200 lol, so i think its time to upgrade
so if anyone can stear me in a general directions, were i can find, at least a full suspension bike, in canada, for under 1k, a nice good quality one, would like the most bang for the buck

Depending on where you live. I would look for used or 2 year old models. Other than that I can't recommend a bike under 1k cdn that is a dually. The cheapest 'quality' company on the market is ironhorse and they had setups for 1500 at the cheapest. Past that, specialized has a bighit (just a bighit) which is a sinlgle pivot 888$american bike which, negotiated could get you an ok bike for fairly cheap.

I assume that's $999 Canadian? I think the Jamis Dakar Sport has Avid mechanical discs for about $950 US (~1100 CA?) and is a decent bike. The base level Dakar, with V-brakes and pretty basic components (about what you would find on a $400 hardtail) is about $750 US. The suspension design is decent although the 2004's took a step backwards in order to avoid paying liscencing fees on the Horst-link setup in the rear. It's XC-oriented but not particularly lightweight at about 32 pounds.

ya, thats in canadian funds
how about a Jamis Dakar Sport? its about $1200can and my local bike shop said they got there biggest sales around christmas, so i think that should lower it under the 1k ammount, and performance wise and quality, how does the bike rate?
oh, and how do i know which size to get, thats always been confusing me, dont want to buy a bike that feels 'ok' and it ends up being to small or to big, im 60kg and a inch or so shy of 6' if i remember right,
thanks again for the help

One of my former roommates owned an older Dakar and really liked. The base level rated as the best bike under $1000 by Mountain Bike Action a couple years ago, although that was before they made a recent change to the suspension design. Obviously the Dakar Sport is a little better. Go to https://mtbr.com for some user reviews.
For your height, an 18 or 19 in frame is probably right, but you will want to ride around the parking lot and figure out which feels best. Any decent bike shop will have no problem with letting you do that. You're fairly light, so the standard springs should be fine for you.
I'm afraid I don't know much about Ironhorse, so I will let others talk about them.

one quick question on clipless pedals, just noticed that nearly all the bikes have these, personally never had them and would just like to know what some good companys are that sell shoes for them, can find like barley anything and there not the greatest looking lol
and can you still pedal fine if you dont lock in? like is there something sticking out or something that will make it unconfortable if you arnt locked in?
