Got a question about fenders.

Ok I'm wondering what size fender could I get for a Marzocchi MZ Comp fork, and what companies make them.

DjRider04 10-22-04 02:15 PM

Dont bother....they really dont have a good purpose, and will only annoy. However, if you must get a fender.....THE makes a sweet one.

issues034 10-22-04 02:22 PM

So the company name THE, or is that short for something and I do want to get a fendr because my front tire shoots up rocks that hit me in the face.

DjRider04 10-22-04 02:28 PM

Well, if you have $40 to drop......it's T.H.E.

issues034 10-22-04 02:32 PM

Alright thank you.

Maelstrom 10-22-04 02:43 PM

I think fenders are usefull...especially here.

Rocks in the face...do you ride with your face near the downtube? ;) I have never heard of someone getting hit from their own bike. I get nailed if I follow to close to someone though

Raiyn 10-22-04 02:48 PM

You could also use these Topeak Defenders

I don't run them on the trail, but they serve their purpose on my commuter when it rains. They look kinda dorky on the hardtail, but when it rains who really gives a F^(* what others think

DjRider04 10-22-04 03:01 PM

Probably because I always wear goggles.....but I hate not being able to see my tire.

Maelstrom 10-22-04 03:27 PM

Thats why I prefer the one attached to the downtube. The huge one out front blocks the vision too much.

cryptid01 10-22-04 03:48 PM

I have a Marzocchi fender mounted to my Z150's...if your fork has two threaded holes in the bottom of the crown, you can use one of those.

It looks integrated, and not tacked on like some of the other aftermarket offerings.

issues034 10-22-04 04:13 PM

Well I looked at my fork and it has no holes for screws to go in on it. Does anyone have a solution for this?

DjRider04 10-22-04 04:14 PM

Ductape

Maelstrom 10-22-04 04:16 PM

Most fenders have expanding bolts that lock the fender into the steerer.

Or for the downtube ones...ductape or zipties.

The Topeak model I showed you has an expansion plug on the bracket that fits into the bottom of the steerer tube.

Ok thanks Raiyn, and everyone else.

The Topeaks also have a quick release on them so that when you don't need them you can take them off leaving only the bracket

Oh, thats pretty freakin cool. How much were they and did you buy them in like a set?

Sp@eder 10-23-04 07:41 AM

I second the Topeak Defenders. They are one of the best fenders you can buy. They look good (IMO), are durable and are considerably cheaper then T.H.E. or SKS. You can buy them seperate or in a set. You can also get them in a spiffy, shiny carbon-look.

They look dorky on my hardtail when I'm running slicks as I do when I'm commuting. With a set of knobbies they'd look much better.

I saw THE fenders for 20 bucks at the bike show. I didn't think it was parctical. I still don't. Are they that strong? They're stylin' but I still wonder if fenders are useful. 20 bucks from 50 is good but man its still expensive.

The plastic used in the Topeak's is pretty durable - it'll bend and get scratched to hell and gone before it'll bust.

issues034 10-23-04 03:40 PM

Ok thanks Raiyn, I think I will get them soon.
