I finally made the commitment, joined the lottery... and I got in! I'm really excited and I've got my sights set on that belt buckle, but I'm also painfully aware that I've never raced on this level before. If anyone who's riding this year (or any other long-distance race, for that matter) wants to chime in about training, preparation, experiences, that would be awesome. And if anyone who's raced Leadville in past years is willing to share their experience, info on the course, what to expect, that sort of stuff, I'd really appreciate it.

I know a guy who blogged a fair amount on his two LV100's (one DNF, one where he got his buckle). Blog writeup in several parts, start from the bottom of this search result: http://teamtwowheel.blogspot.com/search?q=leadville You may pick up some useful intel there.

He's a big guy, probably still 240-250 pounds or so, so racing at an altitude where trees can't even grow... quite an achievement.

Hopefully, MX_599 will see this and post his experiences. He did his first one last year.

congratulations and good luck. looking to be a part of the 2012 race. curious, did you have much prior racing experience? (trying to figure out how difficult it might be to "win the lottery")

I have done the CCP100 3 times now and I am signed up this year for number 4. I have also done a bunch of other endurance races. Focus on nutrition - test several different combinations during training. When you find what works, stick with it. Whatever you do - do not try anything new on race day - nutrition or equipment wise. My 16 yo son will be racing with me as well this year - we have already started training, but he has a long way to go.
