How good is this seat?

Been reading up on a saddle called "The Seat". It is wider than the usual seat and has no protruding "horn". Sells for about $35-40. They claim it is a very comfortable seat (don't they all).

I like to take long rides with my mountain bike but after about 3 hours it is difficult sit on the standard seat.

Has anyone tried this seat, and if so, could you please offer an opinion?

Thanks

It's absolutely worthless on a MTB you lose the ability to "guide" your bike using the nose of the saddle. (Trust me you do this) What is your specific problem with a normal saddle? Where does it hurt?

I had the same problems before until I got a pair of Spandex shorts....The padding for you BUM works wonderfully, and your boys dont hurt after a long ride either

You can get them for $30 ish I think

Like an idiot, I just splurged £50 on a Specialized BG Comp. It's great in that non of ones 'mans bits' feel like they are touching anything at all. The downside is that it is so uncomfortable that after approximately 3 minutes it's too painful to even sit down on .

The problem is that the seat just feels like it is rock hard after about 3 hours of riding. I just don't want to sit on it anymore. The gel seats "appear" to be better but riding for 3 plus hours can make it feel different.

I just want a seat that allows me to ride my bike in excess of 3 hours.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Like a previous poster suggested...padded shorts. On my old bike I would go riding and my bum hurt really bad. A friend suggested the shorts to me and I thought "yea what ever." The padding doesnt look like much in the ones I got but it makes a huge difference. I just got some cheap padded Lycra and I wear regular pants/shorts over them. There are some campanies that make baggie padded shorts but the ones Ive seen were about $80 compared to the $30 I spent.

The seat on my previous bike was rock hard. I got a gell cover made by bell. It slid around some but it helped a lot. Friend of mine tried it out and said it was chafing his legs. Still wasnt enough enough for me. After I got my shorts I tried riding it without the gell cover. The gell cover helped but it didnt make nearly as much of a difference as the shorts did. On my new bike ('04 Iguana) the seat doesnt bother me at all with the shorts on. Havent tried it without the shorts.

As a bonus Lycra pulls moisture away from your body so you will stay cooler in the summer and if you wear a layer or two over it in the winter it will keep you warmer.

I'm fine with the Specialized Body Geometry seat, it's fairly hard, but not too bad even with regular pants. I can't stand 'gel' seats anymore, and even when I had one with my old bike, it got uncomfortable after like 20 minutes of riding.
This, I can ride for a few hours without discomfort, but getting off, and back on in a bit, feels a little uncomfortable until I get reaccustomed to it (few minutes).

Specialized BG seat that came stock on my FSRXC is very, very comfortable. Granted, i havn't had ass problems mostly because i ride pretty far back or on the edge of the seat and probably elevated a bit because of the clipless.

You need to find a saddle that fits your butt. once you do that you can ride all day and you'll feel fine.

Like the others said, padded shorts will make a HUGE difference. If you don't like the tight lycra shorts there are baggy style mtb shorts that still have the padding.

Gel is bad news... you sink into the seat putting pressure where you shouldn't. Same goes for wide seats, more conact, more chafing, more pressure. Figure out about how wide your sitbones are and find an appropriate seat, and make sure you know how to level a saddle correctly.
