Noisy hub
While riding the other day, I was a bit stupid and overshot the landing and made a slight flat spot in my rear wheel. I can feel it while riding on hard pack and pavement.... I see a wheel rebuild in my future. The stock Specialized freehub has a dry, ballsy rumble while freewheeling or back pedaling. Is this going to potentially lockup or cause issues in the near future? It's been going on since I got the bike, the shop I got it from said not to sweat it but, it bugs the crap outta me.
My biggest question is this, while I have the wheel torn down for a new rim (probably going with a Mavic of some sort) should I replace the hub as well? A different LBS whose opinion I respect, recommended that I go with a Shimano XT rear hub vs some expensive "boutique" hub. Thoughts? I need to stay somewhat budget minded here, ie. under $200 for a rear wheel I weigh about 230lbs so it needs to be able to handle me hammering on it (some drops, occasional steps, etc) |
I would get a new hub. a WTB hub will probably be the best option. I have given mine hell for about 5000 km's and it still acts like the day I got it
and get a new rim as soon as you can... |
