Just wondering. I havent used a tube in 4 years and havent had a flat. My buddy im riding with on tuesday has never heard of tubeless and i was quite surprised. I always assumed nobody used tubes anymore.

So, anyone still use them here?

Tubes all around. All my bikes are at least 10 years old, though. And I like them to accept all the same tires. Don't feel like going out and getting 8x rims + 8x tires + goop anytime soon. Too poor for that action.

Maybe special rims aren't needed. Maybe you just need to seal off all the spoke holes? I forget. Never looked that closely into it.

i've got a tubeless wheelset but never felt like putting in the effort. can't remember the last time i needed to change a tube.

I'm tubed. Had about a bazillion flats when I first started riding, but was too broke to upgrade the bike I could barely afford (college = expensive), but then all of a sudden no more flats. Haven't had one in almost 2 years.

I am still running tubes. I do have a couple of tubeless ready wheelsets. I have at least two sets of tires designed to be run tubeless. I just haven't been motivated to buy the goop, buy an air-compressor, and make everything happen that needs to happen in order to run tubeless.

I might consider running tubeless if I was a seriously competitive racer....but I'm not. I'm not a "crumudgeon" by any means, I love tech stuff, but in this particular instance, I just don't see it as worth it.

BOTH, the desert SW is merciless and tubes is something you have to pack along. Plus, you need a quality compressor in the house to commit totally to tubeless. I have to wait for Barry to get home to re-up the tubeless.

I got a flat yesterday with a tube. I didn't run an autopsy on it, though the tube held air after I threw it away. Kind of ruled out thorns. Impact? Lots of fallen trees and rocks yesterday. I like being able to fix it myself.

I ride pretty hard in the Arizona desert. no problems here.

i only have tubeless on one of my bikes. the rest all have tubes. one is neither better nor worse than the other. they are just what they are.

Wow - that does not even compute for me. I buy tubes 20 at a time, usually lasts about 2-3 years. My kids steal a couple, I give a couple away, but most are used by me - and I patch some of them. Most of my flats are on the road - but I have had my share on the off road bikes as well.

Edit- my bad, I was only counting my mountain bikes. I had plenty of flats on my road bikes.

Still impressive. I flat way more on my mountain bikes than my road bike.

I never have ridden them without a tire liner. Spinskins, or the Mr. Tuffy style (other brands) hard rubber. The one flat I had was a sharp pointed rock like many train track beds have on them. It went in so far the spinskin was pushed to the side a little leaving the tire unprotected. I don't race. I did decades of motocross, I automatically think for higher speeds than the mtb goes. I can't help it. 15 psi front and 22 psi rear for rocky roads. It's easy to miss things at 10 mph when you did for it 40+ years at 30 - 50 mph. I don't try to go as fast as I can on the mtb, if it's really rough I just slow down. I'm just out for fun.

Hard rubber strips? How much rolling weight do those add?

I run tubes with slime in them, not much just enough to do the job. I've had 1 blowout in about 4 years and it was a pinchflat from a hard landing.
