The guy wasn't a jerk, at all really. He made a mistake, apologized, stayed to she if she was ok. She threw her damn bike at the guy, and you're actually trying to defend her? Have you ever been involved in a car accident? You can't punch a person for hitting you.
She assaulted him after he accidentally ran into her. HUGE difference.

Well, I finally watched the vid...what a priss. I have gotten smacked by a following rider before, but that's the nature of the beast. Suck it up, wanker! He wasn't following too close, and even if they were totally un-armored...that crash wouldn't cause any injury. Heck man...I've fallen out of bed harder than that.

I don't know why it's women that often do this, but 'tis so. No idea what's going through their mind. Even worse is a group of them running in a pack. Trail or otherwise. See them running together and you'd better be ready for anything. Sudden unanounced U turn or anything at all.

Still kicking.
On a DH bike, it is common.

I'll have to consult my lawyer for this one, but I do believe the penalty for assault is greater than accidentally bumping into someone. Since it wasn't on a road & no motor vehicles were involved, I don't believe traffic law applies to this situation, so really we're just looking at a case of filmed assault. So the girl was in the wrong, both legally & actually.

Regardless, it is 100% her fault for stopping randomly, and then over-reacting. The video makes me want to go out and ride.

Ha! I have some footage of Bikeforums favorite old DHer suffering the repercussions of someone stopping right in front of him. Come to think of it, I have several clips with Chris stopping right in the middle of the trail and someone (mainly me) running or almost running into him.

He's not going too fast for that trail. You can ride as fast as you want on any trail. You just need to be aware when following behind unknown traffic. But slow-moving traffic should also be aware of faster riders coming up from behind...it's just being courteous when at a resort.

Alright, if we want to stick with the legal side, let's play it out:
-Guy accidentally runs into her & apologizes
-Girl intentionally assaults guy
I'll have to consult my lawyer for this one, but I do believe the penalty for assault is greater than accidentally bumping into someone. Since it wasn't on a road & no motor vehicles were involved, I don't believe traffic law applies to this situation, so really we're just looking at a case of filmed assault. Once she assaulted him there was no "who was more or less right" because she escalated the situation to an entirely new level.
He had every right to file assault charges and with it on film she would have been stuck with a misdemeanor assault charge for the rest of her life. Who cares about the accident? It was just that, an accident.

the guy must have been daydreaming to rear end her, some steering movement and not being so close would have prevented the crash.

Now if that had been a BC bike park, the constables would have just encouraged her to take another toke and chill a bit . . . .

Oh & it shouldn't be too hard to get her number...it seems like half of BF.net has dated/married/divorced her.

I like to think that mountain biking is far enough off the beaten path for people to chill the f out & just treat each other decently though. Maybe it was her first time on a trail of that magnitude & she was totally exhausted trying to make it down the mountain, & she just had a tantrum/breakdown moment. I know it's happened to me several times backpacking before, when you hit that moment of total exhaustion & start asking yourself "why do i put myself through this?". I'll defend the guy in this situation because I think it was the girl's fault for taking her frustration out on a guy who made an honest mistake, but I'm not trying to condemn the girl either.
