Help: Very Grippy Technical Tires?
Looking for new tire recommendations, 26" hardtail, dry conditions. I had different Maxxis and Panaracers combinations, just so/so. I've found the old classic Smoke on the rear to be OK. With tubes, I run about 20psi off the max. - and I dont want go the Stans route.
I'm on very steep fire roads, transitioning to single track. It's not loose dirt, but that fine layer of hardpack dust and stone wash on top. Damn, I feel like I'm on ice coming down those hills, then hitting a turn I expect a wash out and manage stay upright by scrubbing off speed - which sucks momentum-wise. Transitioning to single track I want a tire that helps in holding a tight line ... my lame skills have me fighting the tire's track if it's a fatty. Suggestions for super tacky tire combo that handles well for single track? I am NOT racing. Mr. Afraid Tocrash |

I have been riding Intense System 4 tires for the last few months - absolutely loving them, highly recommended.

Bontrager Jones. You environment sounds like some of our power line roads in Southern NV. Dry as a bone, yet slippery as two inches of marble.

Geax Sturdy 2.1 rear/2.2 Front, Geax Lobo Loco 2.3 front and rear, IRC Mibro 2.25 front and rear. Sturdy's are the best tires I have ever used in the SE

I've had great luck with Kenda Slant Six. I wrote a review about them on my team blog:

Just keep them off gravel/rock roads - the Jones I have on the rear of my Klein has been destroyed on those types of roads - literally taking chunks of the knobs off. Put them on in August of last year and ready to replace already.
