11-34T Cassette hits Derailer roller
Just like the title says, can't seem to adjust out enough clearance. I thought the Deore derailers would work with a 34T cassette? Any ideas?

Adjust your S-Stop. The screw at the BACK of the derailleur hanger.
Don't have a pic, sorry! |

The screw on the back of the mech, that buts up agains your hanger. It's called the b-tension screw. Screw/thread it in until you no longer have the problem. Usually doesn't take much; just enough to move the mech body backa nd up, so that the pully wheels don't rest on the cassette cogs.

Well, he already tried to adjust it. I assumed he tried with b-tension screw (s-stop?), what other adjustment is there? Maybe the screw inside the parallelogram that changes spring tension could make a difference? (is that the s-stop?) Would taking a link out help? Maybe you have a medium cage and you need long cage. Bike shop could tell you for maybe no charge. Also they would not charge much you only need an adjustment.

For whatever reason, some of them rub. I had a 2004 XTR on a 34t and it rubbed even with the b-tension the whole way in. Then I bent it in a crash and replaced it with another 2004 XTR, and the new one only has the b-tension in about 3/4 of the way, and no rub.

I did try the adjustment screw, but no luck there. Taking a link out wouldn't help, I need to adjust the entire derailer back, not just the pullies. I've never taken the derailer off before, so is there an adjustment if I take off the main holddown bolt, and angle the derailer abit and bolt it back on?

another option i've used in the past is a little bit longer bolt, that you can thread in a bit more. may or may not help.
or, you may just have an odd frame/derrailleur combo, and might be screwed. might have to go for a longer cage in that case, to handle the larger 34T cog. |
