But what's with all the hike'a'bike vid's lately? I guess I didn't know there were so many people out there that walk up the hills. Especially that vid...it's not the fun part, but dude could have pulled the seat up and gutted it out. What's the fun of walking up 40 minutes only to enjoy 5min of riding?
(that's assuming you walk up at 5mph and descend around 40mph)

2 Make sure that the bead opposite from where you're trying to remove the tire is mashed all the way into the drop center of the rim

Had my first pedal slip with the new pedals the other day...pretty painful. Definitely not something I'd like to repeat (& this was just riding around the col de sac
I was looking at shin guards & the 661 Vegans immediately stuck out to me, mostly because they were cheaper than most everything else. Does anyone have experience with the Vegan shin guards, or have any similarly-priced recommendations? Preferably without knee pads...summers are pretty hot down here so less constricting clothing is ideal.

2) get sticky shoes

A good set of bmx/skate shoes will work well if you aren't willing to pay the $$$ for a pair of Tevas or 5.10's.

As much as I drool over a pair of FiveTen Freeriders, I think I'm going to have to go cheap & get some Vans or something with a waffle outsole. My current shoes are skateboard-specific & have really shallow tread for better traction on grip tape, which means nothing for the pins to sink into.
In good conditions my pedals are still worlds better than the old ones even with poor shoes, but when they get wet or muddy they're unpredictable.

I never was a fan of the vans waffle outsole. I kind of like what DC or Etnies provides in terms of traction.
