29'er wheelsets - mid range

hi all,

I've got a Giant XTC29er1 which I use for a mix of commuting (road) and XC riding. I switch tyres/tubes between the Maxxis Aspens and Continental Gators depending on where I'm riding as both fit the 29er. However, a second set of wheels would be obviously much easier and quicker. I don't mind switching rear clusters though - would initially keep just the one of those.

Question I have is: what does anyone recommend from whats out there in the $500 - 800 range? I'll keep the std Giant wheels for commuting and use the new ones off-road + in the occasional XC race. I need a\to fit with a 15mm through-bolt front hub and 6-bolt rotors. Some that have caught my eye are:

Crank Bros Cobalts
Easton XC
Mavic CrossMax
Shimano XT

No preferences yet and hoping some of you can offer some wisdom. I've read the reviews at mtbr.com and would appreciate hearing some more thoughts from anyone here; particularly if you own a set of something that you love/hate and don't mind explaining why. Please also indicate if I should add others to my shortlist.
