Hey guys, I decided to not get the fuel 70 because I don't like it too much, comparing it to the trek 6700 hardtail. This bike is really nice and I am getting it. It has really nice hayes hydraulic discs those things are so cool. I am concerned about one component though. It is the pedals The Shimano 505 clipless, are they good pedals? I don't think i'll have the money to upgrade to better pedals so I don't know If I should keep these pedals, I do need suggestions for some good clipless pedals, maybe my parents will lend me some money, so just give me some info on some good clipless or if the ones on the trek 6700 are good. I couldn't find many reviews on these pedals so please reply. Thank you

The 505's in my recoglection are the cheeper versions of the 520's. I like the 520's for their job but I like the platform version better. SPD is a good cliples system for the dirt. Remember as everyone said you need shoes (80+) to use them or it is different pedels anyway...

I've saved up 947.00, but you have to buy the shoes? The bike comes with the pedals, I thought if it came with the pedals, it came with the shoes. I think I'm wrong though, what shoes should I get for the 505's?

I have the 505's on my Kona and I like them. There is a tad bit of play in them but not much. They're pretty easy to get in and out of if you intend on getting in and out of them. You'll probably fall, I did. Anyways they seem to work fine.

The 505's are fine, actually... It will come with the cleats, but you have to buy the shoes onto which you attatch the cleats. Everyone likes different styles of shoes, so there's no point in them packaging shoes with the bike. Anyway, you can easily get a pair of shoes for $40-50 if you're on a budget... Just start looking around on the web for MTB shoes that support SPD cleats.
