Why do I keep thinking my handlebars are bent?

I swear sometimes in my old age (and I'm only 43) I think I’m going crazy. I just bought a new bike and every time I ride it I feel the left side of the handlebars is just the slight bit lower than the right.

I'm 44 and I have gone crazy for sure. Get used to that :D

Measure. If the measurements show everything is all right then perhaps your brain will accept that as a fact and stop acting weird. Is the bar centered and the grips mounted properly with no space left inside the grips?

Plumb your bike up against a wall, then flip your level across the bars: are they level across?

If so, go the bathroom. Strand up straight and look in the mirror - - is your left shoulder higher than the right?

might be from leaning in towards the computer on your left side ;)

I get that same feeling on my vintage road bikes sometimes. Usually when I messed up and made one brake hood 1/4" (or sometimes even less!)higher on one side or the other. It feels level at first, but after just a mile or two I notice it bigtime! The point is, your brain is telling you something is off. There's a very good chance there is. The fact that it's new does not necessarily mean it is perfect. Change the bars and/or stem at the LBS. If it's a new bike you bought from them, they should listen and help you out.,,,,BD
