Tell us where it is?
How many people on average race or ride it?
How long is the event / distance?
what time of year?
Tell us a good story about something that happened or the experience.
If you can provide the link?
Thanks

i rode my bicycle in the whiskey off road, in prescott, arizona. it was the race before big johnny from drunk cyclist got hit by a car. they have a 50 mile, a 25 mile, and now a 15 mile version. a fun race, cool people, i had a kick ass time. i am an idiot and managed to "get lost," couldn't find the trail. i had to wait for someone to come up and i followed him, the trail was directly ahead of me, had i pedaled forward about 10 feet i would have seen i was on the trail. i rode with the guy, who was pretty cool, came in behind him and finished 3rd. i rode really well that day and had a great time. i've wanted to go back but haven't yet, and now it's a big huge race and i probably won't do it again due to time and me being fat and lazy.

My favorite was a race in Payson, AZ. Must've been 1990? I did pretty well even though I dropped my chain on the climb first lap.
Herbold was there so that was pretty rad!
Oh I just read the body of your post you want a recurring race? Sorry not into racing much these days. I ride to get out in the nature ya know.
I'd like to try one of the 100 mile MTB races, but seems like entry fees start at $200. Need sponsor.
Let's try to keep this ALL ARIZONA guys

My favorite event was an 8-hour endurance downhill race as part of Silveroxxx at Silver Mountain, ID about 6 years ago. As many "laps" of bombing down a 15+ minute DH course and riding the gondola lift back to the top as you could do in 8 hours. Had a mass LeMans-type start. Was the single most exhausting race I've ever done - - but it was a blast.

I have done this race every year since 2002. Some have done all 21 years. It is billed as the largest single day MTB race in the USA. It is held the first weekend of November inn Northern Michigan so not too far from you. There are typically riders from 30 or more states and other countries as well including Canada. If you are interested in participating, pay close attention to the registration date for the 2012 race. It sells 4000 spots out quickly enough to stall the on-line servers the last two years and filled in 6 hours this spring.

There is also this race that we usually do. This has a 48 mile and 28 mile route. It has not sold out so far and is also in Michigan but farther away. unlike the Iceman, you will not encounter snow but we have raced in rain on occasion.

The Green Chilis burritos and home brewed Tequila and Cervaza is best anywhere.

Tour Divide
Grand Depart in Banff the second Friday of June. Not sure yet if that will be the case in 2018 due to a section having been added that goes to Jasper.
So - about 2700 miles, about 200,000 feet of climbing.
This year there were about 200 people on the race.
Unsupported. No prize money (similar to the Arizona Trail or Colorado Trail races but the granddaddy of them all).
Some of the descents are pretty cool- they might go for 15 miles. The one coming off of Poorman's Pass is pretty steep if you are Southbound; you have to wonder why a mtb is only equipped with a 160mm rotor in the front...
Two Lauf forks have died on the ride. Don't know why. One this year was on Fleecer Ridge- not a good place to loose your fork!
The first time I did it (last year) I went 250 miles before cracking open the biggest (1 liter) water bottle on the bike. You really don't have to carry a lot of water in Canada or northern Montana...
There's bears, mud, sleet, snow, postholing, HAB, a little thing we call 'the Wall', vibration, numb fingers and toes, but they say that 95% of it is mental (and the other 5% is mental); then it will rain.
