26' MTB but which?

Hello guys, this is my first post here but i ve been reading around a lot,and i see lots of helpful ppl lurk around so here is my question : i m looking for a 26' MTB and i m trying to pick one of the following

Univega ht580 :https://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k18....html?mfid=391
Cube ltd cc : https://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k95...011.html?lg=en
Radon team 7: https://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k18...-team-7-0.html

The radon team 7 is closer to the money i can invest BUT if Univega and Cube are worth the price difference i can chip in a bit more.

I havent found reviews on univega and cube or radon thats why i ll need ur help!
Thanks in advance

Boy, they are all right in there as far as parts spec . . . and pretty good ones at that. It just boils down to what geometry you want and whether you like a Shimano/Rock Shox build or a SRAM/Fox build. I personally like the Fox/SRAM/Easton parts spec of the Univega the best (except I don't like flat bars but that's easily changed); but would have a problem with the nervous, twitchy 71° HA. The other two are a bit slacker at 70 and 69.5°. Don't know anything about Radons but, its parts mix seems good and (from my perspective) the most desireable geometry. I'd lean that way.

Getting a new fork for my Trek Mamba so I thought Id replace the Headset while I have it apart, I know Chris King is the S*** but I was looking at the Cane Creek 40 series. I would like the option of anodized red but Ill take black. Any other suggestions? FSA orbit?

Nothing wrong with FSA headsets; they offer a quality product at a mere-mortal price point. I've run a few different iterations of Orbits. Just be aware that all Orbits are not created equal. Look for models with sealed cartridge bearings top & bottom.

i just gotten a 2010 Scott Scale 70 that comes with 8 speed deore and alivio shifter/fd. Was thinking of using a 2x crankset as i just ordered a rotor mtb 2x crankset.

Is it viable using this 2 x 8 combination, will it work? Or should i get something like the Sram x5 10 speed shifters, fd, rd and cassette.

Thanks

I just moved to Socorro, NM and I found out that there's of Mountain bike trails around here.

https://www.socorro.com/fattire/trails.html

Now, i'm in the market for a mountain bike.

I'm looking for a solid entry mountain bike. I'm 6'2" 200lbs.

https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...cname=Mountain

I came across a Specialized Hardrock Disc. I noticed that there's several options, but I've been told to spend the extra cash and get a bike with disc brakes.

What do you guys think?

Future proofing my long travel hardtail build

So I am considering a move into mountain biking - a hardtail as I think it is better to start on a less forgiving set up so that I develop a bit of technique. My mates with MTBs here in Switzerland say I should go for a full susser (FS), from the start, as it will be more fun. As I enjoy builds I plan to spec the hardtail with AM in mind, but will keep an eye on the components I buy so that I can make the most of them if I do decide to buy a FS in the future (and I get another build into the bonus!). So comments on future proofing and compatibility greatly welcomed.

So this is my first rough idea for the bike taking shape around an On-one 456, probably the carbon but I would consider the titanium if it were available, but they haven't been for a while on their website.

https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROOCAR4..._decaled_frame_

Fork – I am very impressed (or won over by the marketing) with the FOX terralogic, specifically this one...

https://www.foxracingshox.com/product...301&ref=filter

I think this will give me the adjustability to enjoy the 456 and be able to use it on a FS later and have a choice of geometries. Or a slightly cheaper option..

https://www.foxracingshox.com/product...303&ref=filter

But as I have never ridden with suspension, I am open to advice and real-world experience on this.

I will have the wheels made by my local LBS. I like the look of these hubs, but they might be a bit too costly https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=55484
I am a real sucker for a dash of yellow, and I may have them put on tubeless rims. I have no experience of these however so am also open to suggestions. Will probably go avid BB7 for brakes as I understand them and do not want the fuss of oil at this stage. Drivetrain will probably be pretty basic stuff I'll take from one of my 700cc bikes (I haven't decided which one I will take off the road but I really do not have room for four bikes, so one will have to go...)

Possible bottom bracket...
https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=25571

So essentially I'm asking for advice on future proofing the parts I buy, my choice of fork, and I am open to suggestion for tubeless rims, and any other pointers to help me start assembling the parts for this build...

Thanks

John

Go disc, but consider mechanical if it is your first experiment with them - I like avid BB7s

It is my understanding that the 8 speed chain would work on the crankset even if it is designed for a narrower chain (but it doesn't work in reverse)

Keeping it 8 speed is the cheapest option for now.

So im looking to upgrade my mountain bike for this summer. Currently I'm using a Cannondale M400. Im 5'11" and weigh about 200lbs. Im trying to lose weight before I start riding so the weight may change. Im looking for a suspension bike. Not sure between full or hardtail. Not too big on colors but I LOOOOOVE Titanium and White and Turquoise, like Moots and Yeti...if that helps LOL.
Here is a link to what I usually ride https://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/wakefield.html

Budget is around $600 could maaaybe stretch to about $800.

At your budget you'd be better off on a hardtail, 26 or 29er your choice. You'll get a better fork and components over a comparably priced FS. Save your lunch money for a couple weeks and get a FS. Save a heckuva lot longer if you wanna get into a Moots.

Wakefield doesn't require a FS to have a fun ride. I rode there a couple years and had fun on a HT Stumpy.

Why mechanical as a first experiment? Hydraulic disc brakes are a thing of beauty.

Moots? Yep. Must save for a while. Figure about 4-5k for the frame alone.

The least expensive full-suspension bike that many people here will recommend is the Giant Yukon FX for $1050. If you can find a 2011 on close-out, it may be within your budget.

What about a Giant AC2? Found one used for $800. Or a Trek Liquid 25 for $700.

29er w/disc

my buddy wants to buy a bike on a pretty extreme budget. he would prefer to keep it around $400. the thing is, where we ride a 29er is perfect and disc brakes are a must. seems like every 29er disc bike i find is at least $500. i can not find a used one to save my life. a trek marlin would be great if i could find one in his price range. do yall know of any similar bikes like that?

I don't keep up with the 29er market, but I can tell you that there's no kind of riding that mandates disc brakes for a beginner, especially if it's 29er territory.

Balderdash. Maybe not "mandates;" but better stoppers are ALWAYS a good thing, no matter the riding or your level of expertise (and maybe more important for a beginner). Add to that the extra leverage a 29" wheel exerts and you have a perfect candidate for discs.

I just think it's silly to view recent technological advances in mountain biking* (or ANY technology...no, you won't die if you lose your cell phone) as essential just because they suddenly exist. People got along just fine (& still do get along just fine) shredding the gnarz with rim brakes.

*I know disc brakes aren't a recent invention, but they've only just become mainstream on mountain bikes.

crazy talk! there is no way you can tell me people ever rode bikes with less than 4 inches of travel and disc brakes and dropper seats.
