Keep 26-er or let it go for 29-er
I have 2009 Motobecane Fly XC with XT/SLX, BB7 brakes and SID Race fork.
I have a dillemma - keep it or change to 2009 (but new) Fuji Tahoe Pro 29 with X7 group, Juicy 5 brakes and Rock Shox Tora 318. I do not want to take the money from the pocket - if I will sell Moto fro the price I can buy Fuji.. But it is not about money - the question is does it make sense at all to make this change - I just want to try 29-er after riding for many years on 26. |
Your current bike has a better spec, I'd keep the 26.
|
Don't be seduced by the Dark Side Luke, er I mean justfit! The 29er wave is still gaining momentum. But as Danni said you have a better rig now. Be patient.
|
What they said. Keep the 26er. No need to downgrade to 29 inch hoops.
Wow! This thread has Motobecanes and 26 vs 29er. All we need is HT/FS and we'll have ourselves a BFnet Cliffs Notes thread. |
Before it will became a big flame around Motobecanes/Fuji's and other BD sh...stuff, I will thank everybody for giving me peace of mind.
I will continue enjoy my SID. :) BD is a good thing..let's go. ;) |

i would try a 29er so you know what it feels like and rides like. demo it, whatever, but take it out on trails you are going to ride it on and see what it feels like. then decide if it's the right bike for you.
for the record, i do not like 29ers. i'm a little guy with little legs and i didn't have any fun on the 29ers i rode. but i understand they are fantastic bikes for some people, so it comes down to you. you are the one riding your bike, not us. get the bike that works for you. |
I actually recommend taking the advice of an online forum and blindly ordering something off the interwebz.
|
29er all the way...

Depends on your weight, terrain, and riding style. Tora would be am upgrade to a sid for me.
|
It is even more interesting than throw eggs at motobecanes - Tora vs SID...
Ok I'm ~190 lbs... terrain is flat and sh**y - roots, sand, fallen palmettos (Florida)... is there any chance Tora will comparable? |

29ers look cool but our local Specialized rep told the dealer it was all hype to create a new market.

... Mountain biking is about doing what you want. If you get the 29er, it's not like that is the last bike you can ever ride.
And like my doctor told me once - If you can do something does not always mean it is good for you... ;) |

Personally, I'd rather be dead than ride a clown bike. ;) |
The 29er hatred is beginning to climb at an acceptable rate. As soon as I feel the hatred has peaked, people will start going back to 26. That will be my window of opportunity to start rocking a 29 er.

I think the 29er trend will fade with a whimper rather than a bang. At some point it will become just another niche option, sort of halfway between a hybrid and a MTB. |
To tell you honestly...if they could make 650b freeride hoops...I'd give that a go. I've been talking about it for years, but maybe I should twinny-fo my full squish.

Me, I recently took the advice of the nice young chap at my LBS and I'm such a proud 29er owner ........... <dons asbestos> |
however... I wanted to try something else and it happened to be 2006 KHS Solo One...singlespeed...26".
I picked it up today for $200 - Bomber fork... deore v-brakes, cool looking salsa handlebar, etc... I have a feeling it will be more exciting than regular 29-er. |
