All joking aside, for someone who is already well-respected here, your remarks show an agile mind and fearless integrity that I suspect have bumped up a few clicks many people's estimation of you (mine included).

^True. It's funny, because Ed was the first person I butted heads with when I first joined here (granted I was doing most of the head-butting). But even after my big-man-on-campus entrance, he's helped me (by far) & earned more of my respect than anyone else here.

My 29'er chip is all but gone...knowing my surroundings and local riders.
I won't conform to it...and nobody's asking me to. Just gonna be me.

Ed ..... and I mean this most sincerely ..... have you ever thought of developing a TV show a la "Top Gear", or of writing book(s) on cycling, with attitude of course, as Jeremy Clarkson has done for motorcars? This takes a special combination of deep/respected knowledge and real wit, along with the complete absence of political correctness. ARE YOU UP TO THE JOB???
?
Think about it - it's a potential gold mine, and what fun it would be while you're at it. From what I've read in my short time on this forum I can see it happening .....

I'll be able to chime in on this argument pretty soon. I just ordered a Motobecane Fantom 29er from BD for $395 shipped. Dart 3 fork, XT rd, deore fd and shifters, Avid BB5, WTB FX28 rims. Freaking crazy deal. I had a budget of about $350 for my bike that I would keep in the US, and was about to get a deadeye before stumbling onto this deal. I think this is perfect for the application. I really like the matte red too.
29 or 26 didn't factor at all into my decision for this bike, only price. Somehow a 29er offered the best bang for the buck..anomaly, or an indication of 26ers becoming obsolete . You be the judge!

If you are tall enough to ride the 21 inch it may still work for you. Put them in cart to see the real price and availability.

Nope. 26ers won't be gone. Too many people like them and they are great. I love my 29er but I don't do serious stuff with it since there isn't any place to ride it that hard. It's great for going up/down hills and going over stuff. If you need agility, the 26ers are the way to go. If I'm on DH's bike, I feel like I'm pedaling and getting nowhere though. I'd love a full suspension 29er but those are really expensive and I'm not sure the frames are up to it. Oh and jumping off of something hurts when you land.
The only thing I regret is not buying the 29er street tires that a LBS store had. I don't even remember which company made them and I can't find them online. The store went out of business a few weeks after so I can't go back and get them.
I do like my Trek Y-frame bike I found at a used store a couple of months ago. It's full carbon and flies like the wind, but I still feel like I'm pedaling more than I should.

I still ride my mid 90s Norco Nitro and love it. But I understood the term brick once I upgraded to an 08 F/S. Good miles to you!

Beware breaking the laws of gravity-it really can hurt!

Sad story both ways. Death of an LBS, I hope the Marts didn't do them in.
