Will 29ers make 26ers obsolete? Seems like every mtn bike being sold today is 29er.

+1

Although I have a 29er HT, I was able to demo a pre-production Scott Spark 40 26er the other day, and I can say for sure that there's plenty of room for both.

Not in New England; most our trails are too twisty for over sized pretzels.

No, because 26" are the most common tires, wheels, and tubes out there, used across the globe. Shear market forces will ensure the 26" will be around for the forseeable future.

About the only thing I can guess is a slight increase in speed (Physics of a bigger wheel), that's all. Not sure how well it applies the MTB however.

I bought a new mtb, a 26" back in April. The LBS tried to push a 29er on me. I think it's all marketing.

it's not all marketing. there seems to currently be an industry push for 29ers, 29ers have their place and purpose and are great bikes for some, but they won't replace or make obsolete 26 inch wheels, just like 26 inch wheeled bikes haven't replaced BMX bikes. same thing.

I'll give up my 26" tires when they pry my cold stiff fingers from the trigger shifters on my 26" bike!

There will always be parts, lots of money to be made servicing this old fashioned part of the industry.

How will protective eyewear educate everyone on 29ers?

How can a wheel size be obsolete? Did size 10 shoes become obsolete because size 12 became available? Sure, the people with size 12 feet weren't very happy being crammed into size 10, but those of us who normally wear 10s never had any issues with them.

Different strokes for different folks. I have no plans to stop riding my 26" bikes.

29er hardtails have already made any quality hardtail 26ers obsolete... at least from the big name companies
