Is this safe?
Okay well today i got the shiftesr to almost complete the bike i am building All is installed except the adapter for the rear brakes (running disc brakes, adapter for 74mm to ISO frame mount). Okay well anyways, a friend of mine invited me to join his "turkey burner ride" on Friday, thats 25 miles of offroad punishment, i really want to go but i dont know if its safe not having the rear brakes, I hardly ever use the rear but still I cant say i mind the confidence of knowing its there...am i crazy to go on this ride withoutrear brakes? I know its probably a stupid question but the adapters in the mail and im not patient

Well it depends on how desperate you are. Frankly I am no expert so take what I say with a grain of salt. Your front brakes provide 70% of your braking power. The only reason for rear brakes is to stabilize you during hard brakes. For most riding having only the front brake will not make a difference. But if you brake too quickly it can send you over the handle bars. So if it is an easy ride and you think that you are willing to take the risk then do it. Just remember that quick stops should be avoided

Well i think thats alright becuase there really are not many technical areas, its a fairly easy trail in that aspect, its just really hillish.

Just go, if anything you'll be slower, but who cares since it's not a race. if you have V-brake mounts on the new frame (which you probably have, since you getting an adapter for disc brakes) and happen to have a set of old v brakes, throw them on for the time being.......

and if anyone laughs at you for doing it, kick them in the junk! Then tell them THAT feeling is the sort of thing you're trying to prevent by making sure sure you have some rear brakes for stability.

It should be ok. If you need to brake sharply, make sure you get over the back wheel ie keep your weight right back.

Go for it if you want to, just be a little more careful for sure, especially if you get caught in one of those tight turns where in case of emergency you need the rear brake to slid around. One ride i had i bent up my rear wheel enough so it made the rear brakes non-functional but i still had 5miles to go, it wasn't so bad just slower than normal going downhill
