are avid linear brakes good?
just wondering if anyone rides avid like juicy 7's i think they are the ones i want to get, probably gonna get them after xmas, but curious if they are good, i know avid makes awesome discs.
oh aother thing, you think it would be worth mixing my brakes as i saw on another post, im probably gonna get new wheels next sprng like ryno lites, and if i got a disc version for the front and a rim brake for the back would it be better to get avid mechs for the front? more worth my money? |
Linear. I thought juicy sevens were discs. Anyways, I've single digit 5's which are amazing even with my 44lb pound monster (dept bike).
|
Juicy 7's are hydraulic dusc brakes.
|
DUSC brakes. Heh heh heh.
|
I, um... meant to say that.
It's not quite a disc brake and it's not quite a U brake. It's a dusk brake. |
Ok so I stuffed up you don't have to be mean
*Runs away from computer crying for mummy* |

Yeah, they get so damn hot that they glow and you won't ever need a light again! :P
|
sorry guys, i was totally confused, ya single digits the ones, wow had a space out today. i was fully looking at the single digit linear pulls when i typed this too....so ya, the single digits, they are nice brakes then right? and the front bake you guys think i should get disc hubs on my front when i get a new fork and wheelset and do up an avid mech?

Avid makes the best cable actuated brakes across the board period. I reserve judgement on their hydro's until I've ridden them, however they spent enough time in R&D and testing that they have to be pretty damn good for them to even bother releasing them - after all they've got a reputation to keep. It's not like they're Shimano and can buy a rep.

From what I heard juicy 7's are the best disc brakes period. I have never had a proper ride on them but they had the best modulation and there was easily enough power, they kicked hope disc brakes between the legs.
But he wants to know about the V's. From how all of avids brakes are I could only guess, but I reckon there V's would be on par with the best mechanical vV brakes out there. |
my friend rides the avid arch rivals. he loves them, and i rode them, they rock. ive ridin the single digit also, for a little extra money arch rivals which are better.
|
I'm sporting Avid ArchRivals on my bike and have been very happy with them. I think that for braking, the buck stops at Avid until you get into discs.
|
cool thanks, i think itd be cheaper to get linear brakes...and avid is a reputable company, plus its cheaper to buy rim brake wheelsets...probably wait till i get a new bike (like 2 years) before i get disc brakes...

What I have now and am very happy with is a mix of avids. I hae the BBD7's in the front and avid single digit 5s in the back. It rains alot here in florida and I really like knowing that I can stop just the same as if it were not. The power of the 5's in dry is more than enuff for the back. The front was also really great power but I wanted some more reliability and disc gave me that. I hear great things about the others. My 230ibs friend loves his Single Digit Ultimates.

i got SD7's and the adjustable pull levers (not sure of the technical name, i think SD7 levers). I haven't had any issues with them AT ALL!!! clean operating low fuss and no wrecks due to lack of braking power.
|
I have Avid linear pull on a couple bikes. The brakes are terrific though I don't care for the levers only because of the shape for my small hands. Hubby switched to Arch Rivals and Ultimate because the XTRs he had before had to have the bushings replaced every few rides. He has Avid v-brakes on another bike and is switching the rims to ceramic so he can get better braking in the wet without spending the bucks on disks on a fork and frame which aren't disk-ready.
|
-Stretch-, I've got Avid Arch Rivals on the front and I love them! Couldn't fit them to the back because the seatstays were too far apart. I use them with the 2002 XT integrated shifter/brake levers and they are superb :).
