Can't decide...
Hi,
I'm in the process of buying a new hardtail bike to replace my 94 StumpJumper M2 FS. At first, I wanted an Stumpjumper M4 since I'm used to that kind of ride. After shopping around, I'm now hesitating between the StumpJumper M4 and the Cannondale F600. I really like the feel of the Cannondale HeadShock and the Avid mechanical disc brakes but the M4 components are a better when you compare side by side. Any comments to help me decide ? Thanks, Martin |
I rode last years F600 until it got stolen a couple of weeks ago. I can't compare to the specialized but I really liked the bike. The Avid discs are awesome - really strong braking. One thing - the frame is really stiff. If that's what you're used to then fine.
Headshok is pretty nice but you don't really get a whole lot of travel. Best for XC without too many big bumps. I didn't have a problem with the components - the cranks could have been better - thats about it. |
I work for a shop that sells Cannondales and they're very nice bikes. As far as the headshock, people either really like them or not at all. The steering is precise and there is NO flex from the shock. But, the travel is limited and it requires special tools to dissassemble!
I personally prefer Specialized Bikes. I prefer the geometries for my type of riding. To sum up, I don't think you could go wrong with either bike! L8R |
I personally prefer Specialized Bikes. I beleive the stumpjumper will have a more compliant ride than the Cannondale, and (IMHO) will be more comfortable over longer distances. |
I keep hearing that...the single shock fork on the cannondales dont have much travel... you can always just loosen or lock the shock out though...I find that they work really well, because you barely feel small hops or curbs. Well that is, on the Cannondale terra.

Thank you all for your replies...
I finally made my mind and went over budget... I bought a Cannondale F700 ice. It was $1799cnd, 200$ more than the F600 and the M4. For that I get the Magura Julies and... a better seat... ;) I had the shifters upgraded to LX instead of Deore for that price. It's not the best deal but I think it's fair. Now I just have to wait 2 more weeks before getting it... ::rolleyes: Martin |
Congrats on the new bike, now the hard part begins. Countdown 13.5 days!
Let us know how you like it when you finally get it! BTW, don't forget to buy a helmet! L8R |
Hmmm,
difficult choice between the Cannondale and Speccy....but good choice of the F700 in the end :D Rich |
Thanks guys! I really think I made the right choice (except for exceeding my budget but that's another story...). As soon as I get it I'll do a report.
I the mean time I'm still riding my M2... Martin |

I sold it to a friend of mine. It will be a good first/cheap mountain bike for him.
