Need to change grip shifter to trigger control
 

Hi, am look to swap the grip shift controls for trigger controls on my sons Giant XTC 20" Jr1. It has a Acera rear mech, Tourney front mech (7sp shimano with 2 up front which is prowheel eek.) with the Revoshift controls all shimano. Looking online its a bit confusing with different makes Sram/Shimano etc. I can see 7 sp trigger shifters but not 2sp for the front mech unless its a diffent make like Sram can can someone help please. What should i do get new mechs and levers plus sprocket maybe even chain set or can i just get away with some parts ( can get 8sp on back so i am told).

If you are looking for an economical solution, I'd just go with Shimano triple front shifter. If he forgets and shifts into the missing gear, the limit screws on the derailleur (make sure they are setup properly) should keep the chain on track. I think I paid $25 at the LBS for the triggers I bought to replace my old grip shifters, and they are working great for my use. Personally, since it's a junior bike, swapping out all those components seems like a lot for something he will outgrow at some point.

Also, make sure you pay attention if you go with a SRAM unit; some of them pull different amount of cable than Shimano, at least the last time I was looking at that stuff.
