Ride report and new bike suggestions

Well today was probably one of my best rides id ever had in my life, until my axle broke. The ride started off amazing it was really muddy and wet which i like and my bike was working great. Itd had been storming and there were tons of downed limbs that we had to pick up but that made it even better because we ended up finding these log stunts that we would have never seen if we were going fast. The first one was a ladder onto a 3 feet tall log and then it dropped to a nice tranny. THe second one was just a 3-4 fott drop to flat. Well after doing each stunt like 4 times i noticed my bike would act funny when i turned to i started looking around and when i took my back tire off my axle feel out in two pieces. We had one great crash my friend was going down this short steep hill and he hit his front brake and the tire slid out and he rolled all the way down and straight into a puddle.

Now would you guys reccomend that i upgrade my bike(gt avalanche3.0) or just buy a new bike. If you reccomend a new bike I would kinda like suggestions on a nice dualie with like 120mm front and anything but an air shock on the rear. O im about 5'10" 185lbs.

Sounds like you need a new bike :)

do you have a price range?

Are you buying a new bike just because of a broken axel??

Also, there is nothing wrong with air shocks now days, front or rear....

A price point would be a nice start for recommandations....

Im willing to spend maybe $850-1000 Im not sure if thats gonna be enough. THe reason for the new bike is that im constantly bending rims and this is the third axle and I think I might be "outriding" the bike, or like i said ealier i could upgrade to better wheel compnents. Also the reason i said no air shocks was i thought they were intended for lighter guys like 100-160lbs and i didnt want to blow it out.

For that money you could get a nice strong hardtail like a Kona Scrap/Shred/Roast or a Haro Escape 8.1/2/3... these bikes tend to be a little more versatile and trail friendly than an all out Urban/dirtjump/freeride rig, and strong to boot.

I would just get a set of Rhyno Lite on XTs wheelset and see how that goes. I used to break rims and bend axels like there's no tomrorow before I got myself some Rhyno Lites.

I have a Douglas from 1988 and it still runs like new. Granted I've replaced most of the components on that bike, but I still ride it once in a while. Unless you really want a new bike anyways, then you should just go out and buy a new bike.

Air shocks came a long way, I'm 190lbs and I'm running a SID with a Fox Float RL on the back. They are both butter smooth and haven't given me any problems just yet. I would do a little more research about current air shock technology before making your final decision.

Good luck
