If you look carefully at the front you will notice that there is rotors.

I saw the rotors. Thats why I said that I had never seen rotors that small before. But what is that bike used for? Those things can't have that much stopping power with that small of rotors (granted, the rear rotor looks to be about your average 160mm).

rankin116 10-07-11 09:20 AM

I bet the front is 160 too, it's just very hard to see. Their website has all the build kits with 160s.

I think you are right. When I get really close to the pic I can see the whole thing. Before I could only see the little part that was noticeable because the fork was in the background. I was thinking it was some type of new 2" rotor or something . I was all like ":wtf: how is that ever going to stop you" But now that you mention it, I thing you are right and it is just really really hard to see the rest of it cause of the background. Thanks for clarification on that.

Maybe he's a genius and thinks bike tech is simple.

The rotors have been photoshopped out. A pretty crappy job of it no less. I'm not certain why anyone would do such things though.

Ahhh . . . it's those new Ghost Rotors. Wafer-thin metallized ultra-high-temp polycarbonate blend that is nearly transparent and gives brakes more power as the heat up, instead of fading.

I'm getting sick of posting 29er stuff...but it's growing quickly enough that there's new stuff coming out all the time:

Duh, otherwise I'd be on here asking you guys questions every time I took on a project beyond my mechanical abilities.

Speaking of, does anyone have a picture of the proper assembly of the Diatech Hombre brake arms? I can't figure out how to attach this cable anchor to save my life!

ed 10-08-11 08:51 PM

I think I found it

Gary Fisher was all hot for curved seat tubes and short rear ends briefly in the early '90s:

I'm stoked about Jamis' steel hardtail action. I gotta get out and test ride them puppies. 68° HT seems a little slack on the 650b.

I'd still have to hit the lottery to consider purchasing one, well maybe except for the Dragon Sport, but I dunno if I could hack pedaling 31 lbs of bike around with these scrawny legs.

ed 10-08-11 09:58 PM

I was just thinking that the Dragon was perfect compared to the Nemesis with a 71' HTA.

LesterOfPuppets 10-08-11 10:07 PM

Pretty drastic jump from the 72° of the Dragon 29s. I'm gonna have to see if I can get myself on a 15" of each and compare/contrast.

Yeah, for sure. IMO, it's a totally different bike. I think naming it the Dragon was a mistake. The Dragon 26/ 29 are geo'd like XC bikes. The 650b is geo'd more like an AM bike. I'd say it's about perfect for what I'd ride as a HT on trails. I'm still hoping for a beefier version of the SixFifty Bx dually that you could build in the upper-20's to 30# range for an Aggro-"B".

I was going to say it looked kind of retro, but I didn't have any examples to back it up & haven't been around MTB's long enough to use the term "retro" without sounding like a fool.

ed 10-09-11 09:13 PM

It's one of those geometry things. The head angle is slacker than a normal XC bike. Remember the post from Doug? The tubes are smaller b/c they're steel. The wheelset is taller than a 26" which makes them "appear" leaner than a short and stocky 26". Those two things make it look sorta retro.

The feel of it "should" be interesting though. Much less harsh than my fat tubed 7005 Komodo, but only a 1/2 degree steeper HA. Taller wheelset should make it roll a bit easier over the chop...yet not a full-on 29 to give it that sluggish 29'er feel.

Here's a review of it:

http://www.dirtragmag.com/webrag/int...is-dragon-650b

I know that I've read MBAction and various other rags including this review referring to aggressive riding as "Aggro / Agro". I challenge them to come up with the orig of that term...b/c I made it up back in the mid 2000's when I started saying "AggroXC".

I want my daggum credit!

samburger 10-09-11 11:19 PM

^That Dragon has a nice 'no BS' look to it.

LesterOfPuppets 10-09-11 11:28 PM

Aggro was in regular use in skater circles as far back as the 80s. Probably Rob Roskopp's fault that MTB mag hacks are using it. :)
