Advice on new bike

Hello all,

I'm looking to get a new mountain bike by summer and I could use a little help. As a kid I was heavily into BMX and later road bikes but it's been a while so I'm a bit ignorant as to descent brands, components, etc. I'm looking to spend about $800 and I want a bike that's going to be versatile......something that I can ride around town and also cross country and light trail riding.

Any help is appreciated!

Since you're an old BMXer, do you still ride agressively? In other words, do you jump anything you can?

If so, I'd recommend a bike like a Specialized P.2, or the Kona Scrap.

I haven't been on a bike in a few years so I won't be too aggresive it first.
I just want to get back on a bike real bad and do some trail riding and see where things go from there.

Both Kona (how is this prnonouced?) and Specialized look like great companies. I'll have to get out and do some test riding.

Thanks!!

Those the others have mentioned or Trek or ....

Stick with some of the major brands (what your LBSs carry) and ride them all to see what you like. $800 should get you a pretty decent bike.
