"Casing" a drop?

What exactly is casing? When you land on one of the wheel relaly hard, 100% of force on the front or the rear, putting all the stress on the rear tri or the headtube? If it's in the dictionary, that's about 13 steps away from the computer, so I'd rather not take my chances and find out it's not there.

It means you land really short on the landing.

You dont "case" a drop unless it has some kind of built up landing you can fall short of.

The term "case" come from MotoX, when you engine and tranny are in metal "cases" and if your front wheel makes it over the jump, but your rear doesnt, you land on the "cases" and hence, you "cased" the jump instead of cleared it.

Same with MTBs, only there are no cases per se.

OH MY GOD

Imagine if you did case it though?

Aka hitting the pedals!?

That would suck so much.

What Burly Surly said, the brunt of the landing is absorbed by the cases not the suspension. With a bicycle I guess it should be called "bottom bracketing it" or "chain ringing it" cuse that is what hits the ground first.

Yes. Really.

Usually I fell over and it hurt, but sometimes, like if im on my DH bike, i can ride it out, but usually you crash good if the jumps are big. But ive done it on jumps of all sizes and it always sucks, no matter what.

And no. I dont think you rule. How can someone who has never cased a jump rule?

Here is a really good video which shows a nice case on a 10-15ft double.
https://mtbvids.superihost.com/vids/f...ble%20case.MOV
I've also cased it on this jump and it sucked.

Klein is still around. He's just lurking in the shadows, waiting for his time to start posting again. Every now and then he posts in the Foo forum

So what you're saying is that he has taken refuge in Z'ha'Dum... biding his time until the right moment to make a reappearance? Oh-oh.. I have said too much.

He doesn't have it anymore, or is getting rid of it. I think the magic has been broken.
