Are K2 bikes any good?

a couple of them are somewhat decent.

which ones are you looking at?

The Lithium, the Tirade and the Razorback are all decent for their specific uses.

They get good reviews are they are priced very competitively.

If I were in the market for a new complete bike, they'd make my short list of bikes to consider.

yeah they're put together with some good parts, and the ones you are looking at are pretty good.

I wish to use it for XC... how do one of these stack up?

Too much for an '01 model.

There are better bikes for the same money NEW for $300.

Any suggestions?

Been looking at some of the giants too...

Really just looking for a nice used XC full sus, frame only with rear shock for somewhere around 300 not really much more.

Increase your budget another $100 to $200 and you'll get a ton more options.

I spent $450 on my $1,300 new frame, used one season. Plus I got a spare front derailluer as well.

Looks like a nice frame at a good price. Aren't you looking for an XC bike though? I thought the AC-1 is more all-mountain/free-ride ??

Well in all truth I would love to have a freeride.

I am doing this as a project and a frist chance to build up a bike my self. I am tired of buying bikes from shops and feeling like I am paying for a name more than anything when I know if i had the skill to do it my self I could have done different. Like use all XT rather than a mix with some lower junk parts.
