200 Lumans Head light

Is 200 Lumans enough light to ride trails at night?? Thanks:thumb:

I rode with 60 the other night. Couldn't see everything and I wasn't setting any records, but it was enough to have fun.

Don't trust factory lumen ratings. Always over rated.

I think that if you're the only one out there on the trail, 200lm will get ya by. If you're riding with a buddy that has a bright headlight...your eyes will adjust to his beam and you will have a difficult time navigating your own. 200lm will let you traverse trails kinda like an explorer. The lights that I built a couple yrs ago were 700 and 1100lm...those will allow you to shred the trail as if it were daytime. It just depends on how fast you wanna go.

MTBR.com are runing a review of light systems at the moment. There's some good comparison shots of the beam spread and what the beam looks like at night, very useful I thought. For me the obvious choice was the minewt 600 @ $150 and factory rated at 600 lumen. Or you could just build your own, I did and got a great set of lights, the only drawback was the brick sized battery required to give about 4.5 hours shine time.

LiPoly makes a small battery these days. I built 1100 true lumens...battery was shy of 4hrs and slightly larger than a pack of smokes. (that one was LiMnNi)
