It's a sturdy bike. On the heavy side.
A few years ago Women Specific Designs were all the rage. Bikes made with narrower handlebar widths, thinner grip diameter...etc.
Hopefully bike manufacturers will realize that kids bikes can be made SIGNIFICANTLY lighter with thinner gauge tubing, smaller pieces of alum., low spoke wheels...etc.
If you've ever looked at BMX bikes there is a whole classification of mini's and junior bikes that have uber thin tires, small dia. tubes, narrow handlebars, shorter cranks, ...etc.
Why not take one of these, build the rear to accept a wider hub spacing and throw a derailleur on it! Don't need 3x9, but a 1x9 system would be sufficient.
Hmmmm, maybe I'm on to something. Junior Mtn Bikes. Time to talk to my friend!
