Avid BB7 Brake Rubbing

The front (disc) brake is rubbing. My bike is brand new and has only been ridden a hundred miles on the pavement. I'm brand new to mountain bikes.

Anyway, can an adjustment be made, or should I take it to the LBS?

You can adjust it. As long as the lever feels good, all you need to do is loosen the two caliper bolts with a 5mm allen. (just a tad) Squeeze your lever. Tighten the caliper bolts while you have pressure on the lever. Should be centered. Once in a while there is lateral tension on the cable or something that you may need to relieve.

There are two red dials on your BB7's that move the pads in and out. You can adjust them to cure a slight disc rubbing.

If the caliper is not aligned well with the rotor you need to loosen the mounting bolts. Use the red dials to position the caliper and tighten the mounting bolts and then dial back the pads to get the clearance you like.

Here is the BB7 User Manual.

If that sounds too complicated take it to your LBS. They sort it out in 5 minutes.
