Prepare for winter.
What kind of oil do I need to wipe down the break lines and chain in prep for winter storage? Is there anything else I should do to prepare for winter storage?
|
Storage? Why would you do that?

Ride bike, maintain regularly.

^ As they said. But if for some reason you Can't ride it, just clean it up and put it away as normal. I assume you're talking about somewhere safe in your house or warm garage. It would be sad if you're talking about sticking it in a storage unit or something. Bikes don't tend to like that sort of treatment. :(

I store my bikes in my apartment. They like it that way.

Guys,
Thanks for the reply.. but im asking about what kind of oil should i be using to lube the brake cables and the chain. I will be storing the bike through the winter in my basement. not permanently of course. I have read that i should inflate the tires to avoid flat spots and lube the chain and break cables.. but it never said what kind of oil i should use.. While i do appreciate the why store it, ride it comments, they really do me no good. Lets assume i have to store it for one reason or another. |
I use TriFlow on cables and 5W30 on chain. Spray all bolt heads with WD40 unless you have Ti bolts.
You originally said brake lines I though you had hydro, bro. TriFlow on all derailer pivots also. There are MANY, hit them all. Repack a hub or two, headset and BB if you have repackable versions of any of those. Just get a tub of Valvoline for $4.00 for that. |
Sometimes ya just gotta ride the rollers.....
